Residents raised $35,000 to Provide two police officers with a rent-free home in English Avenue

In 2011, married police officers Jamie and Kevin Wallace moved into a home in the Bluff neighborhood of English Avenue. Residents of the neighborhood and the organization Friends of English Avenue raised $35,000 to make an abandoned house livable, and the Wallaces moved through a program that allows officers to live rent free for a year as part of a plan to increase police presence in the neighborhood. The program was created after the 2006 shooting of Kathryn Johnston in a botched undercover drug raid. Jamie’s first order of business was to create a neighborhood watch.
